In the current start-up phase VIMation consists of four core research partners, which are members of the I*PROMS Network of Excellence, funded under the EU 6th Framework. With outstanding experience and good reputation in the field of "Human Machine Interaction and Models in Production", the founding members put VIMation on a firm footing.

The aims of the virtual institute are nevertheless to assemble a critical mass of world-class researchers and to encourage collaboration and exchange between academic and industrial partners. This means that to gain the ability to compete successfully, VIMation needs to be a growing international network open for everyone interested in the area of "Human Machine Interaction and Models in Production". Addressed future members are universities, research institutes and industrial companies.
